Merchant Navy Day

Published: 03 September 2020

The PROMINENT building of Blaina Community Institute, High Street, Blaina, Gwent  will fly the red ensign  to pay tribute to the Merchant Navy.

With the county’s historic ties to seafaring, its unsurprising that hundreds of uk men and women served with the Merchant Navy during times of conflict.

As a mark of respect, civic buildings in Blaenau Gwent and wider will fly the Red Ensign Merchant Navy. The purpose of the Merchant Navy Day is to recognise the sacrifice Merchant Navy seafarers made during times of conflict. As we mark respect  Nantyglo and Blaina Town Council will pay tribute to seafarers past and present for serving at sea in the Merchant Navy. For all you did and still do, thank you!
